Bremont and Project Fire & Ice

Bremont prides itself on supporting some truly incredible missions that have championed a multitude of charitable causes—and none come more incredible than Project Fire and Ice.

A Mission for SSAFA

Project Fire and Ice is a new fundraising adventure for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Four famous veterans - Karl Hinett, Brian Wood MC, Jason "Foxy" Fox and Aldo Kane - are taking on a 503 kilometre Arctic Ultra, through the snow covered forests of Swedish Lapland in March 2025.

One of the World’s Toughest Ultra Events

This is an event, arguably one of the most testing Ultra events in the world, that only the most dedicated of long-distance adventurers can take on... and so the perfect day out for our team of veteran soldiers and marines turned marathon runners and adventurers.

The Route: 503km Across the Arctic Circle

The Montane Lapland Arctic Ultra began on the 2nd March and will take 10 days to complete. The 503km route is divided into two loops both crossing the Arctic Circle of 185kms & 315kms respectively round the town of Överkalix.

It is impossible to say in advance what the trail conditions will be like. Dead winter in the Swedish Lapland can bring just about any kind of conditions. If our team is lucky they will be trekking over old snow with clear skies and beautiful starlight and even the Aurora Borealis.  If our team is less lucky they will be facing strong winds, low visibility, and a path covered in fresh, deep, snow.

A Team Built for the Challenge

Of course, with four British veterans forming the team, we expect them to have no problem with navigating the terrain, or facing down even the toughest weather!

Every athlete competing in this monumental test of endurance knows, as everybody else does looking on, that they have truly taken it further.

The Team in Their Own Words

Prior to departure we caught up with the guys, who had this to say:

Karl Hinett

“This year marks the 20th anniversary since my injury and felt compelled to do something that, almost celebrates it and raises money and awareness for SSAFA. I’ve summited peaks over 8,000m and run over 170 marathons, but I don’t think any challenge is going to be quite like this because of the extreme environment and distance…it’s going to be epic!”

Jason Fox

"This trip will be one of the hardest I have done since leaving the military

The three lads I'm with; they mean an awful lot to me in different ways and are a true inspiration to others about overcoming difficulty. It's good to get back into the environment of brotherhood. Looking out for each other, being there for each other, knowing you can rely on people to have your back.

Looking at the other three and seeing how absolutely in pain there they are, that will keep me going because it means I'm not alone."

Aldo Kane

“You know, I've spent 30 years operating in some of the world's most extreme remote and hostile locations. But this is the first time I've done an ultrarace. So, for me, everything about doing, what I do normally under time pressure is, is very different.

For us it’s about giving back to SSAFA who help veterans, that are potentially struggling. And Karl’s story of recovery and resilience is just utterly mind blowing.

I don't know how I'll fare, but mentally, you know, I'm not thinking about finish lines. I'm just thinking about the present moment…not just surviving but thriving in this extreme environment.”

Brian Wood MC

"I'm normally a fair-weather runner, I like the heat, so this will be a massive challenge for me to come into an extreme cold climate and give it my best shot. I'm personally a little anxious as I'm the least qualified in the team, but you've just got to embrace a bit of the chaos and just get on with it.

It's really important for me to support and help raise awareness for the charity. Obviously, a lot of veterans, get many scars mentally and physically, the importance of doing a challenge like this to raise awareness for mental health is very rewarding.

So yeah, I'm just very, very fortunate to be here in this stunning place, and for us to put our bodies on the line for others, raise awareness and be advocates for mental health and vulnerability, I think is incredible.

No one's ever left behind."
